Piano Studio Calendar and Policy for 2016-2017
Fall Session: August 29-December 20, 2016 (No lessons September 5, and November 21-26.)
Winter/Spring Session: January 4-June 3, 2017 (No lessons March 27-April 3, 2017.)
Everyone is encouraged to continue lessons in the summer, arranged to fit your vacation and camp schedules. All students must take at least 4 summer lessons to hold your spot in the studio.
Tuition Payment is due at the first lesson of each month as follows, plus additional cost of books or fees as noted in the assignment notebook (please check it at the end of each month):
Thirty minute lessons: $108 per month
Forty-five minute lessons: $148 per month
Siblings taking one 30-minute and one 45-minute lesson weekly: $240 per month for both.
Absences and makeup lessons: In the event of a sudden illness or true emergency, please call or text my cell phone as soon as possible. I will try to schedule a make-up lesson only in these cases. If you have more advance notice of a conflict (up until the night before the lesson), please send an email.
- Missed lessons ("no-shows") will not be made up, and refunds will not be given.
- Vacations during school (not including school breaks listed above) will not be credited.
- Canceled make up lessons will not be rescheduled!
Practice Regular daily practice at home is necessary in order to progress. 20-30 minutes per day for beginners, 30-45 minutes for intermediate, and an hour per day for advanced students is reasonable. Please have the piano tuned at least once a year, repair as necessary, and keep it in a quiet place in the house, if possible. My piano tuner is Gerald Hubka (630-377-6440 or firstname.lastname@example.org.)
Achievement in Music Exams The Illinois State Music Teachers Association, of which I am a past local president, administers theory and performance exams to track students' progress. Hundreds of students take part at Wheaton College every year, and find the experience motivating. Some of my students participate, and there is a fee of $20 to enter. Most students are ready to enter the exams after about 2 years of study.
Recital Our yearly recital will be held in the beautiful new sanctuary at the DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church in Naperville on April 30, 2017. Family and friends are welcome! This is my 29th year as Music Director and Pianist there.
Concerts Be sure to get out and hear live music in the area. I recommend Wheaton College, College of DuPage, and North Central College (don't miss the fabulous Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville!) Also Elmhurst Symphony, DuPage Symphony, West Suburban Symphony, and lots of outdoor concerts, many of them free!
Referrals Thank you for giving my name and website address to your friends! Many of my students come to me by referral, and I appreciate it very much. If you have any questions, please call or email.
